One of New York's most acclaimed Japanese chefs is now presenting his fabled masterpieces at a romantic new restaurant located in rose-bedecked rooms on the second floor at 248 East 52nd Street in Manhattan.
Sushi Rose, the brainchild of Master Chef Etsuji Oishi and television producer Sumio Sone, offers an extensive menu of Japanese specialties, but connoisseurs will insist on Mr. Oishi's unrivaled sushi kaiseki. A series of five to nine discrete tasting courses, the Sushi Rose kaiseki includes two to six distinctive appetizers, a sushi entree featuring the freshest and most succulent fish of the day, soup, and a dessert.
As one would expect from a Japanese chef who trained in his mother's restaurant, and at Abe-Tsuji, Japan's most renowned cooking school, the Sushi Rose menu remains true to the principles of traditional Japanese cuisine. At the same time, it also bears witness to Mr. Oishi's flair for innovative variations on time-honored themes, a unique talent that has earned him a devoted following at restaurants in Japan and the U.S., and, on one memorable occasion, a command performance for the Emperor of Japan and the Imperial family.
